Two arrested for the murder in a British pub of the beautician Elle Edwards
Police in the UK have arrested a man and a 19-year-old girl in the shooting death of beauty salon worker Elle Edwards in a crowded pub on Christmas Eve.
Edwards, 26, was fatally shot in the head in front of friends when someone opened fire before midnight on Saturday inside the Lighthouse Inn pub in Wallasey Village in Merseyside.
Four other customers were injured in the shooting, which shocked the entire country, where cases of gun violence are rare.
Police on Monday announced the arrest of a 30-year-old Tranmere man on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in connection with what police described as the “cold-blooded shooting” of Edwards. reported BBC News.
A 19-year-old woman from Rock Ferry was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.
Both suspects have been taken in for questioning. As of Tuesday, they have not been named.
Merseyside Police Detective Superintendent Sue Coombs said earlier that Edwards was not the gunman’s intended target.
On Monday, Coombs stated that the investigation into the murder is ongoing and urged members of the public with knowledge of the incident to come forward.
“We will not rest until those responsible are brought to justice and I would call on anyone with information to contact us,” he said.
Edwards had been dancing inside the packed pub when a volley of gunfire erupted before midnight.
Coombs said during a news conference Sunday that the gunman fired into the driveway.
Friends described the moment Edwards collapsed to the ground with a gunshot wound to the head.
A woman performed CPR on the young woman before doctors arrived.
Edwards was rushed to Arrow Park Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
The shooting also seriously injured a 28-year-old man, who remained in the hospital Tuesday.
A 22-year-old pub patron was injured in the legs, a 24-year-old man suffered a hand injury and a 33-year-old man injured his wrist.
Edwards worked as a beautician at a salon called Nova Studio on the Wirral, where his coworkers mourned his violent death.
“Heaven won the most beautiful angel,” read a message posted on the beauty salon’s Instagram page.
“We are all heartbroken, thinking of your entire family at this time, Elle.”
Edwards’ sister, Lucy, who had been in the pub with the victim but left before the shooting, visited the crime scene on Tuesday and laid flowers at a makeshift memorial that has been growing out of the business.
Her card read: “To my Elle May, I love you forever, you will always be by my side.”
