Throughout the day we watched the rich get richer with some teams racing towards the finish line with strong closeouts while others with high hopes finished with a whimper.

In the end, there are some familiar faces at the top of the heap, plus a surprising newcomer that we’re not so used to stepping up as a topic of conversation. It’s a rapidly changing college football recruiting landscape, especially in the new world where NIL reigns supreme, so it shouldn’t be all that surprising to see some new power players step up in the game in the coming cycles.

With that said, let’s take a look at the biggest winners and losers after National Signing Day 2022 here in mid-December has come to a close.

Winners

Alabama: All is well with the world. The Crimson Tide is again at the top of the recruiting rankings with an impressive six five-star prospects from the industry-generated 247Sports composite rankings. Of the 27 recruits who landed in total, 26 have a four-star or higher rating and only one three-star has ever joined the pool. they clung to caleb down#1 security in the nation, earned the #1 EDGE in the country for keon keeley and threw Iowa’s national No. 1 offensive tackle, lady supervisor.

Georgia: The country’s No. 1 team and the reigning national champions are firmly entrenched as the No. 2 team in the rankings. The Bulldogs went around the corridor kyron jones from NC State to complete his class, but the big news was teetering on edge rusher damon wilson from Florida, a player for whom Ohio State was thought to be the favorite, but the Dawgs’ late push kept him in the Southeast.

Oregon: After losing top-line QB prospect dante moore To start the week, many were sad in Eugene. However, Dan Lanning was not among them, as the second-year Ducks coach closed in an absolute fury by drawing five-star EDGE. Matayo Uiagalelei and five-star security Peyton Bowen, freaking out the latter from Notre Dame. However, Bowen was not the only Irish commitment to switch to Oregon, as Lanning ended the day by picking up a promising Irish running back. Jayden Limar. For good measure, he also turned Baylor’s quarterback commitment on its head. austin novosad and LSU cornerback pledge daylen austin. Now, there is no more sadness in Eugene.

Chestnut: Speaking of flips, Hugh Freeze’s class to start his Auburn tenure had a pair of his own with the Tigers stripping cornerback Top247 cain reads Far from Ohio State and Top100 EDGE Keldric Faulk away from the state of Florida. This all comes a day after Auburn landed the No. 4 offensive tackle out of junior college. Izavion Miller. Auburn’s program had zero recruiting momentum under Bryan Harsin, but things appear to be changing with Freeze leading the Plains.

Texas: On Saturday night, Keonilei Akana served up match point for the Texas women’s volleyball team, a Louisville ace that gave the Longhorns the NCAA volleyball title. On Wednesday, her little brother, Help Achan, the No. 1 prospect in Utah, gave the ‘Horns another award with a commitment from the No. 35 overall prospect. Oklahoma was in front for Akana to come in on the day, but the defensive coordinator pete kwiatkowski he never gave up his search for Akana, which had by far the most picturesque backdrop of all the recruiting ads in his native Hawaii. But most importantly on Wednesday, Texas received a National Letter of Intent signed by the nation’s No. 1 recruit, arc manninggiving Steve Sarkisian his crown jewel recruit throughout his time in Austin up to this point.

UCLA: The Bruins didn’t sign anyone Wednesday to change the landscape, which is good because the whole face of recruiting Chip Kelly had already changed when Dante Moore moved from Oregon this week. He’s the highest-rated offensive commitment in the modern era of recruiting for UCLA, the highest-rated recruit Kelly has ever landed and may have the best chance of any quarterback signed in 2023 to start as a true freshman. UCLA clinching the No. 1 player in the Midwest a year before moving to the Big Ten was significant for this program.

losers

our lady: The Irish aren’t necessarily underdogs, in the grand scheme of things, but they had a forgettable signing day. It looked like they might hang on to Bowen, who ultimately ended up getting traded for Oregon. Things got worse when the Ducks also turned on Limar. As good as this class was for most of the year, the loss of Bowen hurts especially.

Oklahoma: Speaking of losses, the Sooners hoped to serve as Bowen’s beneficiary. Instead, they noted that there wasn’t even a hat on the table for Oklahoma while Bowen chose Oregon. To make matters worse, they were the presumed leaders of Akana only to see him scorn the Sooners in favor of rival Red River, Texas.

USC: Trojans have the third most five stars in this class (3). The problem is that they all announced for USC in December 2021. Today? They missed long-time local target Uiagalelei, who chose Oregon. That was a huge loss for a team that needs help on defense and was looking for the optimal replacement for Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year Tuli Tuipulotu.
