Multiple rounds of snow and bitter cold this week
WEEK, RIGHT? YEAH. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE THE SNOW I DON’T THINK IT’S GOING TO MELT A LOT. THEN YOU ADD THE THINGS WE’RE PROBABLY GOING TO SEE HERE. SO A HARD STRETCH OF WEATHER LAW, THAT’S FOR SURE. TODAY WASN’T SO BAD. I MEAN, WE’VE REDUCED THOSE WIND SPEEDS SINCE YESTERDAY. WE HAVE SOME SUN. HOWEVER, THE OAK WAS STILL COLD. SINGLE DIGITS UP IN NORTHERN IOWA BEFORE THIS AFTERNOON. LOW TWENTY HERE IN THE DES MOINES SUBWAY. A COUPLE OF POINTS CLARINDA LA MON I ELSEWHERE TOWARD THE MISSOURI BORDER IT REACHED ABOUT 30 DEGREES. ONLY A LITTLE LITTLE LIGHT REMAINS NOW THAT IT CAN BE SEEN FROM OUR CAMERA TOWARDS WEST OF DES MOINES, 20, BUT NO COLD WINDS YET FEEL LIKE 20 BECAUSE THE BREEZE BELOW ONLY THREE MPH. CHANGES ARE HAPPENING THOUGH, ALREADY HERE. WE ARE BEGINNING TO BRING IN SOME WEST AND SOUTHWEST CLOUDS OVER THE PLAINS. THESE ARE THE FIRST SIGNS OF OUR NEXT WEATHER SYSTEM. COME IN AS WE HEAD INTO TOMORROW. IT IS A VERY VERY GOOD WEEK OF WEATHER. THERE WILL BE SOME PACKED SNOW ACCUMULATION TOMORROW. MORE ACCUMULATION IS LIKELY WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY. AND THEN, ALONG WITH THAT SECOND LOT OF SNOW, THERE WILL BE SEVERE COLD AND WIND BLOWING AROUND THE SNOW AND REALLY DRIVE THAT WIND HERE LATER THIS WEEK. SO LET’S TACKLE THE NUMBER ONE SNOW OPPORTUNITY HERE FIRST. COMING SOON TOMORROW WELL THE ONLY THING YOU WILL SEE TONIGHT ARE SLOWLY BLOOMING CLOUDS ACROSS IOWA UNTIL EARLY TOMORROW. FIRST SPOTS STARTING TO SEE SOME SCALE IN SOUTHWESTERN IOWA. ARRIVING IN BEDFORD IN THAT DIRECTION AS IT HEADS EARLY TOMORROW AND THEN DURING THE MORNING, AFTERNOON, AND INTO THE SECOND HALF OF THE DAY, SNOW GRADUALLY SPREADS NORTHEAST ACROSS BASICALLY THE MIDDLE-THIRD OF THE STATE HERE THROUGH ITS MONDAY SHOULD CONTINUE IN AND OUT. MAYBE A LITTLE OF SOME RAINFALL TOO, BECAUSE TEMPERATURES WILL RISE INTO THE AFTERNOON FRAME OF TOMORROW AND TOMORROW NIGHT. AND THEN THAT SNOW IS GONE. THE SKIES WILL CLEAR UP A LITTLE AND THE FIRST BATCH OF COLD WILL BE LOOKING HERE BY TUESDAY. YOU WILL HAVE SOME FRESH SNOW ON THE GROUND THOUGH, PROBABLY AN INCH OR TWO, BASICALLY SOUTH WEST TO NORTHEAST ACROSS MIDDLE IOWA, SOUTHEASTERN IOWA, NORTHWEST IOWA. YOU’LL BE ANYWHERE IN THE MAIN SNOW BAND, BUT IT’S NOT A TON HERE. THE FIRST TIME. THIS IS THE FIRST BATCH OF SNOW. NOW, WE GO FORWARD HERE. TUESDAY, KIND OF A REST FOR THE WEEK, JUST A SLOW RISE IN CLOUD COVER. AGAIN. BY THE WAY, THIS NUMBER YOU ARE GOING TO SEE HERE, IS YOUR COLD WIND DURING THE NEXT DAYS. THE BREEZE IS STARTING TO GET A LITTLE STRONGER, BUT WE ARE STILL DRY. WEDNESDAY. WE START EARLY IN THE MORNING. WIND COLD BELOW ZERO, NOT TERRIBLY UNUSUAL, BUT A LITTLE COLD. AND THEN, AS WE HEAD INTO WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, THERE IS A ROUND OF SNOW NUMBER TWO STARTING TO COME IN FROM THE WEST. SO THE SECOND HALF OF WEDNESDAY AND THEN THROUGH THURSDAY. WE DON’T KNOW EXACTLY HOW MUCH SNOW WILL FALL YET. WE ARE A LITTLE TOO FAR FOR THAT, BUT WE KNOW IT IS GOING TO GET WINDY AS WE REACH THURSDAY AND THEN THAT WIND IS GOING TO DRIVE SOME SEVERE COLD DURING THE DAY THROUGHOUT THURSDAY. COLD WINDS WILL STRUGGLE TO GET TO APPROXIMATELY -20. -twenty. -30. THAT IS PROBABLY WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT DURING THE DAY. AND THESE NUMBERS WILL DECREASE FURTHER AS WE REACH THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH EARLY FRIDAY MORNING AS THE SNOW MOVES EASTWARD. SO IF YOU HAVE TRAVEL PLANS FOR THURSDAY OR THURSDAY NIGHT I WOULD NOT TAKE TOO MUCH OF THOSE WHO ARE HERE YET. OUTSIDE TONIGHT HOWEVER IT SHOULD BE QUIET BY 13 BY NIGHT LOWS. A FEW CLOUDS WILL MOVE IN AND THE WINDS WILL REMAIN VERY LIGHT AS WE HEAD INTO TOMORROW. THEN SOME SNOW WILL BE COMING IN FROM THE SOUTHWEST AND NORTHEAST ACROSS THE STATE. WINDS STILL PRETTY LIGHT BUT BREEZY ENOUGH TO REDUCE THE ACTUAL TEMPERATURE OF COOL WINDS TO AROUND FREEZING DOWN TO PROBABLY 20S. AND THEN YOU SHOULD BE AWARE OF THE WEATHER FROM LATER WEDNESDAY AND THROUGH NEXT WEEKEND BECAUSE DEPENDING ON THE DAY IT IS , OR IT’S GOING TO BE SNOWY, IT’S GOING TO BE WINDY, OR IT’S GOING TO BE COLD, OR MULTIPLE OF THESE THINGS. WE’RE REALLY NOT GOING TO TAKE THE WORST OF THIS COLD SO W
