How you can help underserved communities gain access to mental health resources

YEAR, THEY HAD A RECORD OF 13 AND 21. ALL GOOD. MAKE SURE EVERYONE HAS ACCESS TO MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES. THAT IS THE GOAL OF THE CHEAT-CODE FOUNDATION IN TRYING TO HELP SACRAMENTO’S MOST VULNERABLE COMMUNITIES. AND NOW IS YOUR CHANCE TO HELP. WE ARE NOW JOINED BY DR. ARMANDO FOUNDER OF CHEAT-CODE GONZALES, THE FOUNDATION. THANK YOU FOR JOINING US THIS MORNING. >> THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME. MIKE: WHY IS THIS SOMETHING YOU FELT THE SACRAMENTO COMMUNITY NEEDED? >> I THINK IT WAS A SNAPSHOT FOR ALL PARTS OF THE USA. WE ALL NEED THIS IN EVERY PART OF THE COUNTRY. A STUDY RESULTED THAT ALL PARTICIPANTS IN THIS STUDY, 90% RATED THAT WE ARE IN A MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS. WE HAVE A DIVERSE POPULATION IN SACRAMENTO AND WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT DIVERSE POPULATIONS WITH THERAPY IS THAT MANY PEOPLE LIVING IN LOW-INCOME NEIGHBORHOODS TEND TO NEVER HAVE A POSITIVE MENTAL HEALTH EXPERIENCE, SO WE FIND WAYS TO ENGAGE THEM AND EXCITE THEM ABOUT GOING TO THERAPY , TO RECEIVE OPPORTUNITIES TO HEAL AND LEVEL UP. MIKE: THROUGHOUT THE MENTAL HEALTH DESERT TERM, CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHAT THAT IS? >> WE BORROWED THAT TERM WHEN WE TALKED ABOUT INEQUALITY TO HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES. SO FOOD DESERTS. MENTAL HEALTH DESERTS ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT PLACES TO REACH WHEN YOU ARE SUFFERING FROM A MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS. MANY NEIGHBORHOODS ACROSS THE COUNTRY INCLUDING HERE IN SACRAMENTO SOME OF OUR POOR NEIGHBORHOODS IF YOU WAKE UP TO FIND YOURSELF SUICIDAL OR ANXIOUS OR DEPRESSED THE CHANCE THAT YOU CAN REACH OUT AND GET HELP, THAT SAME DAY OR THAT SAME WEEK MONTH, IT’S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH MENTAL HEALTH OPTIONS AROUND YOU OR PEOPLE JUST DON’T KNOW HOW TO NAVIGATE THE COMPLICATED SYSTEM. MIKE: TELL US MORE ABOUT THE FUNDRAISING GOAL FOR THE CHEAT CODE FOUNDATION. >> WE STARTED A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION. IT IS A CHURCH CALLED MIDTOWN CHURCH AND IT WAS TO PRESENT THE THERAPY IN A WAY TO ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY AND EXCITE THEM TO GO TO THERAPY. WE WERE SUCCESSFUL IN DOING IT. WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE 75 PEOPLE THROUGH THE EXPERIENCE. THEY RECEIVED 12 SESSIONS, SOME OF THE BEST REPORTED THERAPIES FOR BRAIN BASED TRAUMA IN EXISTING AND RECEIVED DIFFERENT PEOPLE WHO LOOK LIKE THEM, HAD GREAT EXPERIENCES. SO NOW WE HAVE A WAITING LIST OF OVER 250 PEOPLE WHO ARE WAITING TO RECEIVE THEIR OPPORTUNITY. IF ANYONE HAS HAD A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE WHERE THEY FOUNDED TO BE USEFUL, HEALER, FOUNDED TO HELP YOU TAKE THE NEXT STEP IN LIVING THE PURPOSE AND CALLING THAT WE CAN ALL DO OUR PART AND TRY TO DONATE SOME MONEY TO THIS CAUSE SO OTHER PEOPLE THEY CAN HAVE THE SAME EXPERIENCE BECAUSE THEY ARE READY TO GO NOW TOO. MIKE: WE HAVE ABOUT 10 SECONDS, AND PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED IN HELPING HOW HAVE THEY… CAN THEY? >> YOU MUST GO TO THE CHEAT CODE CHP ATC ODT.ORG AND YOU CAN — CHEAT COD
